Warm Up To The Butt Trail

Location

Starts in Taupo and finishes in Fairlie.

Registration and briefing are in Taupo early in the morning on Wednesday 10 February. Planned arrival in Fairlie is approximately 13:00 on Monday 15 February, the day of the Dusty Butt registration evening.

The ride

Started in 2018 as a prequel to The Dusty Butt, this is a 6 day / 5 night adventure ride from Taupo to Fairlie.

The route varies each year and is described as off the beaten track, with spectacular scenery and a social small-group format.

Entries are strictly limited to 12 riders.

Requirements

• Riders must navigate using a GPS.
• Detailed GPS downloads will be made available closer to the start date.
• Riders should be familiar with GPS navigation, although the small group format provides a chance to learn.
• Bikes need a fuel range of approximately 280 km, or riders must carry extra fuel in a NZ standards compliant fuel container.
• Riders must carry their own toolkit and be able to do basic repairs and maintenance.
• Spare tubes are recommended as punctures can be common.

Accommodation and meals

Twin-share accommodation is pre-booked for 5 nights and is expected to cost between $80-$120 per night.

One night at a high country station with dinner, bed and breakfast is included in the entry fee.

Most meals are pay-as-you-go. Accommodation will either provide meals or be a short walk to a pub or takeaway, except when staying on the station.
